September 24 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
These three inspiring, interactive and thought provoking sessions will lay the groundwork for delivery to transformthe teaching and learning of maths in your school. The sessions will examine the role of textbooks and the benefits of teaching through a spiral approach, and explore the key principles and theories of teaching for mastery, including research from Bruner, Skemp and Dienes.
You will gain an overview of when and how key concepts are introduced in Inspire Maths, and how these supportchildren to move from the concrete to abstract understanding. We will explore the development of early mathematical thinking and deep conceptual understanding; number sense; fluency; calculating; and the use of mathematical language. Key areas include:
* Subject knowledge and pedagogy, including investigating how model drawing can be used as a valuable problem solving resource to strengthen and deepen pupils’ understanding of mathematics and how to ensure all children are developing reasoning
* How the assessment books to support and achieve greater depth
* How to ensure children develop critical thinking skills, become confident learners and problem solvers, can reason and make connections.
Please note that a minimum of 2 staff members from your school must attend. This is usually the Maths Lead and a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
